Avikar completed his graduate work at Stanford in the group of Monika Schleier-Smith, working on engineering interactions between rubidium atoms mediated by an optical cavity. An expert in counting (up to 2), he has moved from using a single atomic species to laser cooling diatomic molecules as a postdoc on the CaF experiment.

When not in lab, Avikar enjoys swimming, eating, and cooking.
